NRL access via YHCR Portal

When a patient is from outside our region, it is possible that there are relevant patient records in the patient’s home region, and being alerted to these records and subsequent access to NRL would assist the ambulance crew to retrieve these records and triage more effectively.

Besides the standard FHIR resources available via YHCR, some data types are held in other locations. YAS crews cannot search every patient record IN CASE that record has an NRL data, we need to be alerted when NRL data is available.

NRL contains details such as;

  • eRedBag data for care home residents

  • Mental Health Care Plans

  • NEWS2 scores

  • End of Life information.

Although the number of times this sort of data would be available is currently low, the risk of not being aware of previous encounters, is a high impact.

    Hi Nigel,

    Quick update on this one. We are undertaking some discovery work as it stands to determine what work would be required to link our infrastructure with the National Record Locator.

    We intend to make a submission to NHSE indicating what work is required to see whether the project can be funded. If we are able to obtain funding for the work, we will move this idea into an active status so we can progress development.
